Panama has become a very attractive country where foreigners consider settling permanently due to its ample labor options and its evolution in investment matters, one of the most frequent questions when making the decision to move is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to apply for a work permit and what do I need?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In accordance with Art. 11 of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gacetaoficial.gob.pa\/pdfTemp\/29760_C\/GacetaNo_29760c_20230413.pdf\">Decree No. 6 of April 13, 2023<\/a> these are the common requirements to <strong>apply for the work permit<\/strong>, namely:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Affiliation before the corresponding instance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Power of Attorney by Public Notary<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Application by attorney<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Certificate issued by the National Immigration Service stating the applicant's immigration status.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copies of the pages of the passport where the general information of the holder appears.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copy of the processing card, provisional or permanent residence card, issued by the National Immigration Service or copy of the permanent resident card issued by the Electoral Tribunal and authenticated by said entity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Classifications of work permits and what I am required to apply for them<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Panama - Italy Agreement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All Italians will be able to apply under this category once the <strong>National Immigration Service<\/strong> grants resolution in favor of the applicant with the requirements mentioned in previous lines. This permit is indefinite and therefore does not require extensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Work Permit for Friendly Countries<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All foreigners who have a residence permit under the category \"<strong>Friendly Countries<\/strong>\" or all those who are in the process of applying for it may apply for this work permit, either for investment or for professional ties with the requirements mentioned above.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to request an extension, the applicant must submit an income tax affidavit with a clearance from the DGI or proof of payment of the 9 installments to the Social Security Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Qualified Investor Work Permit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any foreigner who has applied for a Qualified Investor Visa may apply for a <strong>work permit<\/strong> under this category with the requirements mentioned above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to request an extension, the applicant must submit an income tax affidavit with a clearance from the DGI or proof of payment of the 9 installments to the Social Security Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Work Permit for Own Financial Solvency&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any foreigner who has applied for the visa of own economic solvency may opt for a work<strong> permit<\/strong> under this category with the requirements mentioned above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to request an extension, the applicant must submit an income tax affidavit with a clearance from the DGI or proof of payment of the 9 installments to the Social Security Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Married to National:<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you marry a Panamanian national you can apply for <strong>family reunification<\/strong> and apply for that type of work permit. In addition to the requirements mentioned above, a Marriage Certificate issued by the Electoral Tribunal with a maximum of three (3) months prior to the application and a copy of the Panamanian spouse's identity card are required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Ministry of Labor and Labor Development<\/strong> will conduct a marital interview to make the necessary verifications and in some cases a home inspection.
